Researchers Crack WPA Encryption

Two researchers have apparently cracked part of the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption protocol.

The researchers, named Erik Tews and Martin Beck claim to have broken the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) in under 15 minutes. The breakthrough means that data sent from the router to computers and other devices can be scanned, but not the other way around (fortunately).

Access to this traffic means that hackers could also send false information to a client within the network.

The researchers developed a way to get the router to send large volumes of traffic, thereby giving them a large data set to work with, in order to break the key using a mathematical formula they developed.

Fortunately the new and improved WPA2 is not affected. Unfortunately though, not a lot of routers use this form of encryption as it was only released last march.

When wanting to find the best deal for something, then comparison is a must. Whilst it's very important to compare home insurance and things like that, it's also a good idea not to forget smaller - but still essential - things like pet insurance comparison as well as broadband comparison.
