VirusTotal-logo Have you ever received a file from someone that you don’t really trust? Ever downloaded a file and suspect it could be infected but your antivirus says otherwise? Well now you can scan for viruses using over 30+ different virus scanners for free!

Virus Total is the name of the website that offers this great service. You simply upload the file that you wish to be scanned to the website, and after a few seconds (depending on your upload speed) the file you uploaded, will start being scanned by each scanner.

When the file is being scanned you’ll be able to see which antivirus is scanning it and what the result is.

VirusTotal is a service that analyzes suspicious files and facilitates the quick detection of viruses, worms, trojans, and all kinds of malware detected by antivirus engines.

Specs:

  • Free, independent service
  • Use of multiple antivirus engines
  • Real-time automatic updates of virus signatures
  • Detailed results from each antivirus engine
  • Real time global statistics

Warning From VirusTotal:
VirusTotal is not substitute any antivirus software installed in a PC, as it only scans individual files on demand. It does not offer permanent protection for the user’s system either.

Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file.

Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware. You may become a victim of misleading advertising, if you buy such a product under those premises.

When wanting to find the best deal for something, then comparison is a must. Whilst it's very important to compare home insurance and things like that, it's also a good idea not to forget smaller - but still essential - things like pet insurance comparison as well as broadband comparison.
